Specialty Foods and the Health & Wellness Tourism Sector to benefit from over US $2 million

Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) has secured US$1.07m under the Caribbean Aid for Trade and Regional Integration Trust Fund (CARTFund), to develop CARIFORUM’s Speciality Food sector. The CARTFund is administered by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and financed by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

According to Caribbean Export’s Sam Kruiner, Project Manager for this Specialty Food Project, “The two year project will assist firms in this sector to boost export performance, which in turn will help the region to move into higher value added production.”

Agriculture stakeholders review progress and plan ahead

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (SKNIS – March 8, 2010): Farmers and agriculture officials would meet on Tuesday, March 9, to discuss a wide range of issues pertaining to the development of agriculture in the Federation.

The meeting will be the 15th Annual Agriculture Review and Planning Meeting of the Department of Agriculture. Police investigate shootings

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 8, 2010 - Police Release...The police are presently investigating a number of shooting incidents which took place over the weekend, they are as follows:

On Friday 26th February 2010 police responded to a report of shooting which occurred at approximately 9:30 pm at Leonard Dickenson Street, Ponds Pasture in the vicinity of the Newtown Primary School. Investigations revealed that Morvel Fahie a Taxi Driver of Lodge Village was shot at while he was driving taxi bus TA-122 north along Leonard Dickenson Street.

PM Douglas says he expects parliamentarians to show maturity

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MARCH 2ND 2010 St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas (Labour- St. Christopher 6) said Tuesday that he expects a certain level of maturity in the conduct of the affairs of the National Assembly in the election of a Deputy Speaker at the opening of a new session of the lawmaking body next week.

Responding o a question on his weekly radio call in programme “Ask the Prime Minister,” Dr. Douglas pointed out that, as was the case during the recent parliamentary term of 2004 to 2009, the Deputy Speaker will have to come from the opposition benches.

DENZIL DOUGLAS REGIME FACILITATES FREE PLASTIC SURGERY FOR KITTITIAN CHILDREN

Three toddlers from the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis have received free plastic surgery at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, Kingstown, St. Vincent, thanks to the networking efforts of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Via its Ministry of Health, the Government investigated the possibility of partnering with the Government of St. Vincent through its children’s plastic surgery programme which takes place at the Memorial Hospital in partnership with the Children’s International Hospital based in Virginia. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Patrick Martin told SKNIS that a preliminary visit was conducted by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Mr. Elvis Newton and himself.

Resident Brazilian Ambassador calls on PM Douglas

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 24TH 2010 Brazil’s first Resident Ambassador to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has been welcomed to the twin-island Federation by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

Dr. Douglas in welcoming His Excellency Miguel Magalhaes expressed thanks to Brazilian President His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for appointing him as the first Resident Ambassador to St. Kitts and Nevis.
